When I joined the Gift of Life Bone Marrow Registry in May of 2018 while on Birthright in Israel, I did not expect to ever be a perfect match (1 in 300 chance). This past February I was informed that I was a perfect match for an adult male with Leukemia, and in March, I donated stem cells to help save his life. All it takes to join the registry is a quick DNA swab, and if matched, Gift of Life works with you on all the next steps. The donation itself is more uncomfortable than it is painful, which just required sitting in a reclined chair for 6 hours. I urge every healthy person to sign up for the registry. It takes very little from you yet it can bring so much to a patient and family in need. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions about donating or signing up.
